Healthy Initiatives makes the Health, Nutrition and Well-Being of our youth and community at large a priority by offering nutritious food, healthcare collaborations and on-site counseling services.
APCH Health collaborations provide members discounts on eye exams and glasses with Lenscrafters and the Fullerton School of Optometry. We also help families procure medical care through Healthy Families, Harbor Corridor Best Babies and Esperanza Salud (for diabetes, glucose and blood pressure testing). Finally, our work with the USC Ayuda Dental Clinic and Dr. Richard Done have offered dental care for almost 10 years.
APCH partners with the Ayuda Dental Clinic offering over 100 youth a visit to the dentist by converting our 10,000 square foot facility into a dental and oral surgery center for one full day. Ayuda means "help" and the doctors, dentists and students of USC Ayuda, under the direction of Dr. Richard Done, do just that. This intensive oral care day ends with patients dental records are held with the Ayuda Clinic and if extended procedures are necessary, patients are encouraged to continue their care through the Ayuda Clinic.
Nutrition at APCH combines serving healthy meals and snacks to our youth while teaching parents and youth the art of preparing healthy meals at home. In collaboration with the USC Nutrition program we promote healthy eating habits by teaching youth learn about the five food groups and basic nutrition. Through United Harvest, we provide nutritious hot lunches daily. Our partnership with Herbalife allowed APCH to install a "state of the art" kitchen complimented by the "Squid and Squash Foundation" which will provide future opportunities including culinary courses for our teens.
Well-Being assures that our youth and families are provided emotional support through our Counseling services. The wrap around service offers therapy, behavior analysis and case management in a family systems method of care. Counseling has individual, group and family therapies as well as widespread Center programs that support social and psychological development. Programs include Be Girlz mentorship in which girls create a "Honor Esteem and Respect" circle of support; Voices allows youth to express themselves verbally in interactive sessions focused on relevant social topics and Parenting Classes are provided throughout the year.
