APCH partners with The Cinderella Project: Real life Fairy Godmothers to descend upon South Central Los Angeles

More than 600 Girls to Receive Beautiful Dresses for Upcoming Proms

The Cinderella Project

The story of Cinderella is so much more than just a fairytale for youngsters. Her story continues to be shared throughout generations because at one time or another, every young woman has faced adversity and experienced doubt about herself – her worth.

As a little girl or young woman, there is a wish to be beautiful – but, what does that mean? Cinderella's beauty didn't start when she donned her fancy gown. Her beauty was shaped during her times of hardship, doubt, struggle and loneliness. Cinderella's character took form as she looked beyond her circumstance and herself to understand her place in the bigger world. She was kind to others and in turn her friends and a special "fairy godmother" helped her transform into a princess!

Real beauty comes from within...

But it's also true that the way a girl looks and feels on the outside can make a huge difference to her self-esteem. If you are a woman, do you remember that day when you first caught a glimpse of yourself in the mirror with a beautiful dress on? You twirled around and around, wishing you would never have to take it off.

12 Steps to Finding Your Inner Princess

The Cinderella Project transforms teenage girls into princesses by providing them with free beautiful dresses, shoes and accessories for their upcoming proms and graduations. The event not only gifts them with a beautiful gown, but also empowers them to develop their inner-beauty and esteem through signing up for volunteer opportunities that will make a tangible difference in their communities.

About the Host: APCH is a dynamic non-profit youth center in South Central Los Angeles. At APCH each day hundreds of underprivileged youth, aged 8-20 years old, explore positive alternatives to destructive behaviors associated with poverty, unemployment, and low educational attainment through free programs in education, the arts, nutrition, fitness, counseling and vocational training.

WHAT: "Fairy godmothers" from The Cinderella Project will transform young girls from South Central and greater Los Angeles into princesses by providing them with beautiful dresses. The event, now in its eleventh year, expects to dress up to 1,000 girls this year. Read more about last year's Cinderella Project in the Wall Street Journal.
